Institute of Oceanography
Nha Trang Oceanographic Institute is located at No 1, Cau Da, Tran Phu street, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province. Institute of Oceanography Nha Trang was established in 1922 in French colonial period, to December 1969, the management transferred to the University of Saigon. At that time the institute's collection had more than 60,000 samples. The Institute also houses seismological data, tide cycles and ocean currents in the South Viet Nam Sea.
Nha Trang Oceanographic Institute is one of the earliest scientific research institutes in Vietnam and considered the largest marine archaeological research facility in Southeast Asia.
Visiting the institude, visitors will be able to see the Museum of Marine Life with more than 20,000 specimens of more than 4,000 types of marine and freshwater species collected over many years, and see live specimens kept in glass tanks. especially the museum is preserving and displaying a giant whale skeleton nearly 18m long, 3m high that has been buried underground in the Red River Delta for at least 200 years.
